3Minkeys Glassworks is a small art studio run by David Frink in Imperial Beach, California.
David is a retired architect who has always been fascinated by the way glass impacts the way we perceive light. Some of the raw glass, as it comes from the glass factory, is so visually interesting, he feels that the most important task of the artist is to not screw it up.Throughout the day, differing light angles & intensities will transform a piece, so it is always fresh & interesting.
David has been designing & constructing glass art pieces since the mid-90’s.Rather than try to represent objects, the majority of his glass art pieces are designed as contemporary compositions with an emphasis on “Line” & “Edge”.He is particularly fond of leaving voids in his compositions, which create visual tension adjacent to vibrantly colored & textured glass elements. As opposed to architectural design, which is highly planned & dictated, this glass art design process is rarely static, but rather “organic” in nature, a piece will evolve in form & dimension throughout its creation.
David also does mosaic work as well as murals for public & private installations. He is currently a Board member of the Imperial Beach Arts Bureau, with a mission of empowering artists & helping to create public art.
